Hello shipmates and valued members of the USS FOX (DLG/CG-33) Reunion Association:

The 2007 reunion for the USS FOX (DLG/CG-33) Reunion Association will be held in Charleston, SC beginning on Thursday, May 31 and ending on Sunday, June 3.

Although FOX was never home ported there, the beautiful city of Charleston has much to offer. We have tried to capture the essence for you in the short time you'll be in the area. I hope that you will be very happy with what we have put together for you.

Our reunion hotel is the Holiday Inn Patriots Point, just across the new Ravenal Bridge and 13 miles from Charleston International Airport. The hotel has all the amenities, including an outdoor pool, steam sauna, sundeck and exercise room. Visit www.himtpleasant.com for more information. We will be using the code "Fox" for reservations. Each attendee will make their own. Telephone; call 800-290-4004 or 843-884-6000 and give the code. Internet: go to www.himtpleasant.com. Click on "reservations". Fill in the required information in the "Travel Dates and Traveler Information" window. Click on "Corporate and Group Booking Information". Enter "Fox" in the "Group Booking Code" field.

We have a block of 40 rooms set aside for the reunion. Our special room rate of $79.00 per night, Thursday and $109.00 per night, Saturday and Sunday. The $79.00 per night rate will also apply the two nights before and after the reunion. We'll have a comfortable hospitality suite where we can again exchange all those great sea stories.

Thursday, May 31 is our first official day. Registration will be in the Hospitality Room. No formal events are scheduled so you can take the afternoon to get (re)acquainted and tell sea stories.

Friday, June 1 begins with our featured event; a coach tour of Historic Charleston for $30 per person. Also, there will be an opportunity to wax nostalgic as you walk steel decks surrounded by haze gray at Patriots Point, the world's largest naval and maritime museum. Visit the Aircraft Carrier YORKTOWN, the famous fighting lady of World War II; the destroyer LAFFEY, a participant in the World War II D-Day landings at Normandy; the submarine, CLAMAGORE, one of the Navy's last diesel powered submarines; and the Coast Guard Cutter, INGHAM, which was in active service until decommissioned and given to Patriots Point in 1989. Visit www.patriotspoint.org for more information.

Some of us enjoyed a dinner cruise around Lake Washington at the 2002 reunion and we will have an opportunity for another cruise around Charleston Harbor. "Cruise Charleston's beautiful harbor by moonlight aboard the 100' luxury yacht, Spirit of Carolina. Enjoy the unique sights of our harbor at night as well as a delicious dinner in a romantic atmosphere. The view of the city and its church spires is fantastic from the water and the sunsets are glorious. Dance to the music of a live band. Entree choices can be made at the table. Alcoholic beverages are on your own. Dinner Menu: Charleston She-Crab Soup, Spirit Signature Salad with assorted homemade dressings, Choice of Beef, Seafood, Chicken, and Pasta Entree. Chef's selection of potatoes, rice, or pasta, fresh seasonal vegetables, freshly baked breads w/ sweet cream butter, house dessert, coffee, tea or decaffeinated coffee." The price will vary between $85 and $90 per person, depending on how many sign up. I will wait until April to make a final determination about the number interested and make reservations. Our general meeting will be held on Saturday morning. We'll keep it short, but will have to elect Association officers and select a year and site for our next reunion. We have made arrangements for spouses and those not attending the business meeting to visit Drayton Hall, a National Trust historic site in Charleston. Completed in 1742, the historic plantation house stands majestically on a 630-acre site and is one of the finest examples of Georgian-Palladian architecture in America. The cost of this tour will be $40 per person.

Saturday evening will start with a cash bar social hour. The banquet dinner will offer your choice of Baked Stuffed Chicken, Marinated Sliced Sirloin, Roast Loin of Pork, or Pasta Primavera.

The reunion will finish with a Farewell Breakfast buffet (included in the registration fee) with scrambled eggs, cinnamon French toast, bacon, link sausage, grits (of course) or hash brown, juices, coffee, and other assorted items. All in all, this reunion should be a most memorable experience for all attendees.

We have been cautious in our predictions to the hotel because we don't want to incur any penalties for not meeting our contract. So please, if you're intending to attend this reunion, send your registration form in right away so that we can get our numbers right with the hotel as early as possible. Even if you don't send money right away, send us your registration form, but we must have your registration form and fees no later than May 1. Final Deadline for reunion registration and also hotel reservations is May 1.

If, after reading the Plan of the Day, you are interested in attending our 2007 Reunion, please complete the Registration Form and return it to me with appropriate remittance. The sooner I get the Registrations, the sooner we can get the activities firmed up. The forms require Acrobat Reader to open and print. If you don't already have Acrobat Reader on your computer, please go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and download it.

I am also asking you to complete and return the Shipmate Database Form. I haven't updated the database since the 2002 Reunion and it is woefully out of date if the number of bounced E-mails is any indication.

Thanks again and I am looking forward to your response and seeing you in May!

Also, my cruise book scanning operation is temporarily shut down. It turned out that either the mother board or the AGP video card socket in my Dell is bad and Dell and I haven't reached an accord on how their defective computer will be handled. In the interim, I am operating from my notebook which lacks the power to handle the demands of video processing. I can, however, send you 300 dpi jpg images of some of the FOX C.O.'s along with the bio from the Cruise Books I have already scanned. If you would want them, let me know and I can get them off to you.

Later,
